Ecoboard Projects

Feature Wall

Material: 8, 12 & 20mm Ecoboard, 1 of each, solvent based black paint, masking tape, dusk mask, paint brush, medium/fine sand paper, concrete Seal, non-sanded natural grout, and brad nails.

Ecoboard Projects - Feature Wall
  1. Clean surface of ecoboard, free of dust, then apply concrete seal on surface. Reapply another coat of concrete seal after the first coat has been absorbed.
  2. After drying, cut different thickness ecoboard into square and desired sizes. (we cut 24x12, 48x12 & 4x96 as per picture for the display)
  3. Wear a mask if cutting dry due to dust generated.
  4. Prearrange the desired patterns by randomly placing different thickness ecoboard. Masking tape the surface of ecoboard and paint the exposed edges black.
  5. Use medium/fine sand paper to lightly bevel the edges to remove excessive paint and chipping.
  6. Install 5/8” plywood as backing at your project area . (This will help leveling the surface, especially wood frame structure) and paint it black to prevent see-through in between gaps.
  7. Use double assurance method to install ecoboard. Apply construction adhesive (example: PL Premium) at the back of ecobaord to attach and use air brad nails (use appropriate length brad nails for different thickness) to fasten onto plywood.
  8. Use 1/8” tile spacer if necessary for even gaps.
  9. Repeat step 6 & 7 until complete the project area.
  10. Fill brad nail holes with non-sanded natural grey grout and clean after dries.

Material: 12mm ecoboard, Paint brush, water based glossy Polyurethane, Electro plated screw caps, medium/fine sand paper, Dusk mask, Brad nails and solvent based black paint.

Ecoboard Projects - Feature Wall
  1. Cut 12mm ecoboard slightly oversized and square. Wear dusk mask if cutting dry due to cement dust generated. (we cut 48x48 as per picture for the display)
  2. Clean surface and apply solvent based glossy polyurethane with paint brush. Apply with firm coat to allow self level.
  3. After drying, sand bubble area with fine sand paper.
  4. Cut ecoboard into exact size of panel desired. (Cut into exact sizes after applying polyurethane will help chipping less)
  5. Lightly bevel edges to even out chipping.
  6. Install 5/8” plywood as backing at your project area . (This will help leveling the surface, especially wood frame structure) and paint it black to prevent see-through in between gaps.
  7. Placing ecoboard into position and use appropriate brad nails to fasten ecoboard onto plywood. (can also use construction adhesives to avoid filling after install)
  8. Use 1/8” tile spacer if necessary for even gaps.
  9. Measure equal distance from each corner (we did 5”x5” from each corner) and pre-drill 1/8” hole on the ecoboard to avoid flaking the cement surface.
  10. Fasten the screw into pre-drilled positions and tightening the electro plated caps.
  11. If used brad nails to install, take drywall filler and mix with color pigments to match color of surface and fill brad nail holes.
  12. If the patch is not shinny as desired, apply oil or oil related product onto the patch for shine.
  13. If one wished to fill gaps, use grout or polyurethane silicone to seal gaps.
